The perfect marking system

Careful cable labeling is of great importance for the safety of electrical systems and control cabinets. Without clear labeling, errors can quickly occur and cause dangerous situations. For this reason, industry standards such as IEC 61439-1 (proof of design for switching devices and responsibility) and DIN EN 81346-1 (principles of structuring and reference marking) are used to ensure machine safety. Texit's cable markers and conductor markers make a major contribution here. As a European manufacturer of cable markers, we specialized in permanent cable marking for industry over 20 years ago. In addition to cable markers, our highly specialized product portfolio also includes labels and type plates for marking machines and systems. Overview of conductor and cable markers

Cable marker self-adhesive

Self-adhesive cable markers

Self-adhesive cable markers are also known as cable labels. This type of cable labeling consists of a plastic film (material = polyester, polyalken, polyethylene or vinyl), which is provided with a permanent adhesive. The self-adhesive cable markers are particularly suitable for applications in places where there is little space for cable labeling. Self-adhesive cable markers can also be retrofitted to cables that have already been installed. No tools or accessories are required for installation. The robust cable labels from Texit are also self-laminating (i.e. they have an integrated protective laminate that protects the text field). This makes the cable labels highly resistant to moisture, chemicals, oil and even UV rays. Please note, however, that the writing field on the cable labels is limited by the cable diameter. You can find more information on the self-adhesive cable markers on the cable labels overview page.

Shrink tubing as a cable marker

Shrink sleeve marker for cables

Shrink sleeves are regularly used in industrial environments as cable markers (e.g. in the railroad industry). In order to be able to label a cable permanently and legibly with a shrink sleeve, you need special shrink sleeve markers. These cable markers are special shrink sleeves that can be flexibly printed with a thermal transfer printer. As with labels, the size of the text field on the shrink sleeve markers is limited by the cable diameter. Thanks to their very high resistance, shrink sleeve markers are often used for marking in mechanical engineering. Here too, you do not need any tools to attach them, just an industrial hot air dryer. The heat causes the marker to shrink to the exact size of the cable diameter. You can find more information on this method of cable marking on our overview page for shrink sleeve markers.

Cable marker signs

Probably the most classic cable marker is the cable label, which is attached to the corresponding cables or lines with the help of cable ties. To attach these cable markers, you therefore need additional cable ties (which are pushed through the openings on the sides of the marker). Thanks to our latest product innovation, Texit now also offers you the option of buying cable markers in this category without cable ties. You will then no longer need any accessories to install these markers. The cable markers without cable ties can also be attached after the cable has been installed. They are also suitable for marking cables in a larger format and are available in various colors and materials. The best results are achieved with this method of cable marking when using a thermal transfer printer. However, there are also cable labels for manual labeling. These are made of polypropylene and can be labeled by hand. Discover our range of cable markers and cable ties here:

Wire markers for cables

As an alternative to cable marking, wire markers can also be used at this point. The wire markers achieve particularly good results when using cables with a small diameter. These markers are pushed or clipped onto the cables (cable clips) and are available in different colors. In our range you will find a variety of wire markers for cable marking. Do you (your company or your customers) still have questions about our products? Then don't hesitate to get in touch with our marking experts. At Texit, we always advise our customers personally and work with them to find the optimum products for their existing requirements.

Stainless steel cable markers

Stainless steel markers as cable markers

Stainless steel markers are used wherever extreme environmental conditions prevail. Examples of this are the chemical industry or offshore platforms. Here there are special requirements for the items used. Stainless steel markers are extremely robust and durable. At Texit, we supply the stainless steel markers on a roll and already with your desired inscription (either lasered or embossed, depending on the product).

Cable marker DIN A4

Cable marker DIN A4 laser printer

For some applications, cable markers in A4 format that can be printed using conventional laser printers are also suitable. Whether such markers are suitable for you depends entirely on your requirements and the application environment on site. For some industries, the use of these markers is completely sufficient, as this cable marking is also very robust and at the same time significantly more cost-effective, as there is no need to purchase a printing system. Here you will find our cable markers in DIN A4 format for laser printers:

Frequently asked questions

Cable markers FAQ

What are cable markers and why are they important?

Cable markers are special labels or markings that are applied to cables to identify and organize them. They are important to ensure order in cable installations, minimize safety risks and improve efficiency in troubleshooting and maintenance. There is a wide variety of different products in the cable marking sector. It is therefore particularly important to make the right choice. Without cable markers, installations can be confusing and difficult to manage, leading to inefficient workflows and potentially dangerous situations.

What materials are used for cable markers?

Cable markers are made from various materials, including hard-wearing plastics such as polypropylene, polyolefins, vinyl or PVC & polyester, which can withstand heat, moisture, chemicals and other environmental conditions. However, other materials such as metal (steel, stainless steel or aluminum) are also used. The type of use usually determines the material of the markers or labels. This allows you to find the best solutions for your requirements.

What are the advantages of cable markers?

The use of cable markers offers a number of advantages. By clearly marking each cable, the installation becomes clearer, which speeds up troubleshooting and maintenance and minimizes downtime. This leads to overall greater efficiency and productivity. In addition, cable markers reduce the risk of mix-ups and errors, which increases safety and prevents potential damage to equipment. They also promote order in cable installations, which facilitates long-term management and maintenance.

Where are cable markers used?

Cable markers are used in a wide range of applications. They are used in the electrical and electronics industry to identify cables in control cabinets, control panels and electrical systems. In telecommunications, cable markers are used to identify network cables and fiber optic cables.

Industrial applications include the labeling of cables in production facilities, machines and devices. They are also used in residential and commercial buildings to organize the cabling of audio, video and data lines.

Is there a standard for cable markers in Germany?

Yes, there are various industry standards and regulations that govern the labeling of cables, depending on the industry and application. It is important to follow these standards to ensure compatibility and safety. Among the best known are the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). These standards set guidelines for cable identification in terms of color coding, labeling and placement to ensure compatibility and safety.
