Correct cable marking plays an important role in cable management. Cable markers are used to organize cables and ensure that individual cables, lines and even individual cores and wires can be identified at all times. As a manufacturer of cable markers, we at Texit are experts in the field of industrial labeling. With our cable marking system, we make your cable management easy. That is why we have compiled an overview of the most common methods of cable marking in industry for you here:
Cable marking options
There are various options available for industrial cable labeling. Cable marking can be carried out with different markers made from various types of plastic. In any case, we recommend that you use cable markers made of plastic or stainless steel, as these two types of material are very robust and meet the high requirements for cable marking in industry. We have been able to achieve very good results with these cable markings in a wide range of industries over the last 20 years.
The selection of the specific cable marking always depends on your specific requirements on site (e.g. desired colors and sizes, indoor or outdoor use, resistance to certain environmental influences on site, ...). In the following overview, we present the usual categories for"cable marking". You can find more information on the corresponding category pages. Our experts will also be happy to advise you personally and individually on your requirements at any time.
Cable labels
The cable labels are markings that are stuck around the corresponding cables. Texit's cable labels are self-laminating - they have a piece of protective laminate that protects the actual label from environmental influences. Cable markings as labels are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and, depending on the product, are also available in a halogen-free version. Another advantage of this type of marking is that the cables and conductors can still be labeled after installation.
Heat shrink marker cable
Shrink sleeve markers (snap-on sleeves std) have proven themselves in the industry. These have been specially manufactured for printing and score highly in terms of durability and versatility of use. Texit's cable marker shrink sleeves are made of high-quality plastic (usually polyolefin) and are slid onto the cables. They are suitable for a wide range of cable cross-sections and many products in this category can also be used for halogen-free labeling.
Cable marking Cable labels
You can also use cable labels for cable labeling. The labeling is done using a thermal transfer printer or laser printer and the cable markers are then attached to the corresponding cable using cable ties. They are available in various sizes (for different cable diameters) and colors and are made of flexible plastic (usually PVC or polyester). These cable markers are very often used for cable identification in the photovoltaic sector, as many products from this sector are optimized for outdoor use (UV-resistant, which means that the sleeves can also be used outdoors permanently). Cable labels are also suitable for labeling cable bundles.
Cable markers to slide on
Push-on cable markers classically include all cable markers that are pushed or threaded onto cables, e.g. wire markers. These cable markers can even be used to mark individual cores and thin wires. When marking cables with push-on cable markers, you must bear in mind that the marking usually has to be applied during cable assembly. You will also find cable clips in this product category. These clips are not pushed on, but clipped onto the corresponding cables from the carrier (mounting rod).
Stainless steel cable marker
Stainless steel cable marking is probably the most robust and durable method of cable marking. Stainless steel is many times more robust than plastic or aluminum. These cable markings are therefore often used where extreme environmental conditions prevail, e.g. in offshore wind farms or in chemical production. Stainless steel cable markers are rust-proof and therefore permanently legible. Texit's stainless steel cable markers can either be laser engraved or embossed. Cable markers Printer
If you want to label your cable markings yourself, you will need a printer. For permanently legible cable markings, we recommend that our customers use a thermal transfer printer. This type of printing creates an extremely robust marking on the cable markings. Our TX4 cable marking printer is very suitable for cable markings. For shrink sleeves, especially in continuous format, we recommend using our TX4M shrink sleeve printer.
If you order cable markers from us, we will also be happy to put together a suitable printing system for you. In addition to the markings, the system consists of a suitable printer, thermal transfer ribbon and user-friendly labeling software. Cable marking FAQ
Which cable markings are suitable for permanent cable identification?
Which cable markings are suitable for permanent cable identification?
For permanent cable marking, Texit recommends the use of cable markers made of robust plastic. They should be printed using a suitable printing system and the thermal transfer process - in this printing process, color particles are melted from the thermal transfer foil onto the marking. The resulting imprint is extremely robust and durable.
In what size and color are cable markers available?
In what size and color are cable markers available?
Texit offers cable markers in a wide range of sizes and colors. The required size is always based on the corresponding cable diameter (this also applies to marking rings). In industry, white and yellow are the most common colors for cable markers.
However, Texit also has other colors in its range and, as a manufacturer of cable identification, we can always produce special colors and sizes on request. You can find the article number of the individual products on the product details page (gtin). There you can also add the appropriate items to your shopping cart.
What material are cable markers made of?
What material are cable markers made of?
Cable markers can be made of very different materials. Markers made of plastic are most commonly used in industry. These include materials such as polyester, polyolefins and PVC. However, metal cable labels or paper cable labels are also used here.
The choice of material always depends on the individual requirements on site. The prices also vary depending on the material.
How are cable markers attached?
How are cable markers attached?
Cable ties or adhesive are usually used to attach cable markers. Some marking products do not require any extra fastening (e.g. slide-on wire markers), while other markings are attached to the cable using heat (shrink sleeve markers).
What is the availability of cable markers in the Texit warehouse?
What is the availability of cable markers in the Texit warehouse?
At Texit, we generally have high availability of all items in our standard range. When we receive your order, we check the availability in our warehouse. If the items are in stock, we can deliver them to you within Germany within 3-5 working days.
If the products are not in stock, we can still deliver quickly thanks to intra-European production. The exact delivery time can be found in the confirmation of your order.
Which cable marker can also be used for conductors and cable marking?
Which cable marker can also be used for conductors and cable marking?
Many cable marking products can also be used for marking conductors and wires. You should pay particular attention to the diameter of the cable markers. Cable labels are very suitable for cables, while shrink sleeves are particularly suitable for use in control cabinet construction or for marking wires.
Depending on the systems and safety regulations, labeling with (cable) labels may also be an option. This labeling is available in various designs and is supplied on a roll.
